ConstructReach Intern Spotlight

The Crowther Group’s engagement with Dallas ISD, Dallas Community College District as a PTECH-ECHS industry partner of Spruce Early College High School now includes a pair of interns working with our teams.  The internship falls under a program championed by our client, Target Corporation, called ConstructReach.  ConstructReach is an online community designed to help bolster the construction workforce by connecting young, diverse thought leaders with each other, with opportunities and with mentors.  Here we put the spotlight on Destiny, soon to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree in digital media.

What are 3 or 4 defining moments for you as you have progressed through the Early College High School program? Think of events or things that shaped your path, had the most impact on making you who you are today, and believe will lead you to add value to your companies.

Being in the Early College High School program in itself has molded me into who I am because the teachers and professors always expected 110 percent, I have always pushed myself to do better than my best. Choosing a pathway in Digital Media only reassured me that my creativity and skills in art weren’t just a wasted talent that wouldn’t get me a suitable career. Digital Media showed me that drawing could be Illustration, or animation, and designing –all things that give more opportunities. And the most important things to have impact who I am today are my best friends. I feel like those few five friends are the reason I made it through the Early College program, because no matter how tough it got to balance personal problems or school, we were always there for each other.

What is your favorite part of your internship so far?

My favorite part of working at The Crowther Group is the crew. I am always excited to get to the office. Of course, everyone is busy doing their part, but we always find time to be human and laugh and have a great time. It’s like going home to my second family.

Which of your personal attributes have been most beneficial to you so far working with The Crowther Group? Explain why.

A personal attribute that has benefited me has to be my childishness. Since it seems my personality hasn’t aged with me, I find it easier to make any assignment fun, interactive, and interesting, which helps with brain storming, planning, and my problem solving.

What are the two or three most important lessons you learned along the way that others could benefit from?

The most important lesson I have learned is to take a break. Don’t quit– just take a break. It’s okay to get frustrated, tired, even annoyed, and, if there is time, take a well-deserved break. The second most important lesson is to always have an emergency snack. After a snack or meal, the mind is still in a relaxed mood so there’s no self-pressure and makes the work flow…well flow.
