ConstructReach Intern Spotlight, Part Two

To follow up on last week’s Team Member Spotlight, The Crowther Group’s engagement with Dallas ISD and Dallas Community College District as a PTECH-ECHS industry partner of Spruce Early College High School now includes a pair of interns working at our headquarters.  The internship falls under a program championed by our client, Target Corporation, called ConstructReach.  ConstructReach is an online community designed to help bolster the construction workforce by connecting young, diverse thought leaders with each other, with opportunities and with mentors.  Today we put the spotlight on Alexandra, soon to graduate with both a high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree in digital media.

What are 3 or 4 defining moments for you as you have progressed through the Early College High School program? Think of events or things that shaped your path, had the most impact on making you who you are today, and believe will lead you to add value to your companies.

Events or things that have shaped my path were choosing my pathway, balancing schoolwork, and time management. Choosing which Early College pathway to choose from was a difficult decision because I would have to be dedicated to it throughout my whole high school life. Balancing schoolwork from both college and high school was a big challenge at first because it was a big transition. I managed to handle the workload and it made me become very responsible. It was helping me be prepared for the real world for when I do get my first job. I also learned time management because of all the deadlines I had to keep up with and I became very independent. Turning everything in on time and maintaining high grades was challenging because of the amount of effort I put in but it also affects the grade I earned. I developed skills that are much needed in the workforce and know I will be able to handle any challenge ahead.

What is your favorite part of your internship so far?

My favorite part of my internship so far is The Crowther team/crew. They have all been so welcoming and wonderful. It is a great pleasure and honor to be able to be a part of The Crowther Group. They help me whenever it is needed and overall, the work environment is very uplifting. The team are all very hard workers while still maintaining freedom to socialize.

Which of your personal attributes have been most beneficial to you so far working with The Crowther Group? Explain why.

The personal attributes that have been most beneficial to me so far while working for The Crowther Group are my hardworking skills, ability to work with others, ability to handle challenges and my knowledge of Adobe Creative software. These attributes are necessary skills needed in a workplace.

What are the two or three most important lessons you learned along the way that others could benefit from?

The two most important lessons I learned along the way that others could benefit from is having personal experience on the inside of a general contracting firm, giving me a better understanding of general construction management.
